Donna Tracy, an artist and visual effects consultant, whose work as a Matte Painter, Designer, Compositor, Motion Graphics Artist, and Supervisor spans over 30 years. She has contributed to renowned films such as Star Wars, Terminator 2, Independence Day, Total Recall, Harry Potter, Spiderman and the television series, The Cosmos, with Carl Sagan. 3D stereo projects include Call from Space (Showscan) and T-Rex 3D: Back to the Cretaceous (IMAX).
Together, with Adolf Schaller, they painted Mercury, Venus, Mars and Pluto landscapes for Griffith Observatory's permanent Deep Space Exhibition. Their multiple collaborations led them to establish OmniCosm Studios where they formalized their working interest in science and art.
Donna Tracy's talents as a fine artist gave her entrée and confidence to step into the specialized world of visual effects. She started her career on Star Wars as the first female optical compositor in the business. A decade later, she was on the leading edge of the digital revolution that swept Hollywood.
More than once she has found herself at the start of a new company to produce a new project with new technology that has had an effect on the industry at large. Her broad experience in pre-visualization, look development, visual development, storyboarding and shot design informs her as she directs artists, designs shots and supervises visual effects.
She has also brought her expertise to the classroom where she has lectured and taught college courses in multi-media and visual effects at institutions that include, UCLA, Pasadena Art Center College of Design, University of Denver, and Chaffey College. She has published and lectured on copyright with regard to the digital age and exhibited her artwork nationally. She received a BA in Fine Arts from UCLA and a Master of Arts from California Institute of the Arts.
